In the fall of 1992, the Corps Center opened to the public.  Visitors where able to tour the large central hall which houses thousands of Aggie artifacts and memorabilia, browse a library with over 3,000 military research volumes, see the largest gun collection in Texas, and use the large conference rooms. The Corps Center houses the Commandants recruiting office, the Corps academic advisor, and other offices for Corps Staff, and the Corps of Cadets Association.

That same semester the Corps Center Guard was activated. It was an elite group of 10 cadets who dedicated themselves to learning and presenting the heritage of the corps. The Advisor is always the Curator and was the late Joe Fenton '58. He was the authority on corps history. "Old Army Joe" as he was known trained these cadets on the basics of managing and upkeep of artifacts, arranging displays, and historical presentations. These cadets  chose to portray the corps uniforms  from Joe's days as a cadet, the 1950- 1964 period.

Today the Guard still lives by their standards. Now  it has 4 platoons each assigned to a specialty: "Guns", "A&R" (Accession and Research), "Photography", and  "Tours". Although all cadets specialize in an area they are required to have a working knowledge of all other specialties. This is to better facilitate a newer assignment to the guard, the guiding of tours through the museum. The guard also has reproductions of the 1870- 1890 era uniforms, as well as replicas of each major uniform change.

The Corps Center Guard has recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary. As the newest special unit it has achieved many honors which include being awarded its own service medal, citation cord, and guidon. The guard continues to provide outstanding service to the university and corps through its job performance.
